Industry Quality Standards and Accreditation

Global Quality Certifications Followed by Indian IT & CAD Engineering Companies

In this section, we will have a detailed look at the global quality certifications followed by Indian companies. Their goal is to adhere to the standards of the IT-ITES industry to ensure the quality of the engineering services that they provide to clients from around the world.

ISO/IEC 27001 (Formerly BS 7799)ISO/IEC 27001 (Formerly BS 7799)

The ISO/IEC 27001 (formerly called BS 7799) quality standard is probably the most recognized security standard in the world. First published in the mid-1990s and revised in May 1999, the BS 7799 has developed into the BS EN ISO 17799 quality standard in December 2000.

What this security and quality standard covers is a host of security issues by implementing control requirements. If you would like to become an Indian IT outsourcing company that is world-class, you can achieve compliance with the BS 7799 security standard.

CMMi Model

CMMi stands for Capability Maturity Model, which aims to provide guidance in improving the processes in your business organization (including products & flexible adaption of engineering practices). Once the model is implemented, the development, acquisition and maintenance of your products and services will be significantly improved.

COPC 2000 Customer Operations Performance

The aim of this standard is to develop and drive initiative that supports superior performance in customer-touch intensive environments. Some of the standards which are being looked into include customer service, customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Currently, the way that the COPC quality standard works is by auditing organization for compliance with COPC standards. They are usually implemented in call centers, contact centers and fulfillment centers.

eSCM - eServices Capability Model

eSCM stands for eServices Capability Model (for service providers), and it is the first once in the
world to cater to the unique requirements of the BPO industry. What eSCM focuses on is
developing ways to assist customers in measuring the capability of service providers to establish and continually manage outsourcing relationships.

This feat is accomplished by initiating and guiding service providers through the process of continuous improvement. Another aim that this standard has is to be the preferred resource for ITES-BPO capabilities.

ISO 9000 Standard

The ISO 9000 (International Standards Organization) is a series from the European quality standards written by members of a worldwide delegation known as the ISO/Technical Committee 17.  ISO 9000 Standards is a set of documents on international quality assurance. It
is made up of five documents which include the following:

  • ISO 9001 – Model for quality assurance in design
and development, production, installation and servicing.
  • ISO 9002 – Model for quality production and installation.
  • ISO 9003 – Model for quality assurance in final inspection and test.
  • ISO 9000 – Supporting guidelines for documents.
  • ISO 9004 – Supporting guidelines for documents.

People Capability Maturity Model (P-CMM)

Another quality standard implemented by Indian companies is the P-CMM. This model aims to manage and develop an organization’s workforce and adopt the maturity framework of the Software-CMM. What makes P-CMM different from other business models is its ability to radically improve a software’s ability to attract, develop, motivate, organize and retain talent. The model also aims to integrate workforce improvement with software process improvement programs which are guided by SW-CMM.

There are five maturity levels for P-CMM, each of which lays a foundation for improving talent, developing effective teams and successfully managing the members of each organization.

SEI-CMM Model

SEI-CMM stands for Software Engineering Institute-Capability Maturity Model for Software. SEI is a research and development center established in 1984, which was funded by the US Government. Meanwhile, the CMM is a framework which describes the key elements included in an effective software process. The CMM outlines an evolutionary improvement path from being an adhoc, from immature to mature processes, and on to a disciplined process.

Furthermore, CMM has five maturity levels which are made up of several key process areas. They each provide a layer in the foundation for continuous process improvement. As soon as a level of maturity in each level is achieved, the overall processes capability of an organization is improved.

Six Sigma

Finally, there’s the Six Sigma quality standard which allows business owners to have the necessary tools to improve their business processes. The goal is to boost performance, decrease process variation, deflect reduction and improve profits all at the same time.

Although the Six Sigma is a quite rigorous and
systematic methodology, it is effective nonetheless in helping improve your operational performance, practices and systems. This is accomplished simply by identifying and preventing the defects in manufacturing and service-related process. The end result is that manufacturing and service-related processes’ defects are anticipated, expectations are exceeded and overall effectiveness is accomplished.
